About
‘Olympic Bingo’ is the alias of South Australian writer, producer and multi-instrumentalist, William Bahnisch.
The youngest of three siblings, Bahnisch grew up digesting the musical tastes of his parents and two older sisters. The sounds of Eric Clapton, Van Morrison, Bob Dylan, Led Zeppelin, Nirvana, Jamiroquai, Wu Tang Clan, Warren G and "Rave" music were constant companions to his home environment, which was also occupied by a number of his dad's guitars. Bahnisch first began playing the instrument when he was eleven, and studied formally through his formative high school years. After school, Bahnisch discovered a love for electronic music, jazz, and world music, which is evident when listening to his eclectic material. While studying at university, in addition to playing guitar, Bahnisch began playing bass and taught himself on the piano. After finally finding like-minded individuals, Bahnisch began playing in a number of musical projects. Most notably, Thom Lion, The East District and, most recently, Los Palms.
After years of compiling his personal ideas and demos, Bahnisch, using a number of musicians he previously collaborated with, finally hit the studio in 2016 to begin recording his studio project titled "Aloof" under his adopted moniker "Olympic Bingo". Initially released in June 2019, "Aloof" was re-released in January 2021 via Paper, Rock, Scissors Records. Bahnisch, born and raised in Adelaide, South Australia, continues to write, produce, and perform music locally.
